(Note we won't be posting the this year's schedule for a few months. Right now the link will bring up last year's schedule as an example.)

Notes on some schedule activities:

1.  Jamming

We're providing a number of jam-related activities at this year's festival, see the schedule for times.

  • • Jam space at a festival hotel (subject to negotiation each year)*
  • • Often we'll have Jamming Skills workshops for both dulcimer types
  • • Scheduled slow and regular jams*
  •  *Jams are intended for festival participants and their guests only. All acoustic folk instruments are welcome.

If you want to get a head start, here's a small list of core tunes that are familiar at jams throughout the country. While these tunes are fair game for our festival jams, so are any other tunes.

  • • Black Berry Blossom
  • • Liza Jane
  • • Saint Anne's Reel
  • • Cherokee Shuffle
  • • Mississippi Sawyer
  • • Southwind
  • • Golden Slippers
  • • Old Joe Clark
  • • Whiskey Before Breakfast
  • • Liberty
  • • Red Haired Boy
  • • Wildwood Flower

Click here for these Core Jam Tunes in printable .PDF format. Some sheets have TAB for mountain dulcimer, some are just music notation like how hammered dulcimers would use, some are included in both formats. Note: people play these tunes differently (that's part of the folk tradition) - or they may adjust a version specifically for a particular instrument. Don't get too tied up trying to play these examples exactly as written.

2.  Open Mic

Attendees can sign up to perform open mic during dedicated schedule slots - solo players or groups. For old pros, this is a way where all of us can hear what you've been working on. For players that have never performed in public before, this is a very low key way to start, with lots of encouragement from everyone. If you're just a little scared but want to do this, grab someone to play along with you! A signup sheet will be available at the registration desk during check-in and breaks. Please limit your set to no more than two songs.

3.  Mini-Concert

On Friday just before lunch, our guest instructors will give an informal mini-concert for festival participants and their guests!

4.  Spotlight Concert

We hire a local musician to provide a non-dulcimer music presentation for attendees on Saturday while we're staging dinner and doing some concert prep.
